The Season for Soup

The Season for Soup

There’s definitely a chill in the air. Quite the change after a long heatwave last week. It was pleasantly surprising to find myself in the midst of drizzle and heavy fog when I made a trip to the coast a few days ago. I so love this cuddle-up time of the year!

It’s also the perfect time for soups, pho, won ton mein, hot pot, ramen, clam chowder and bone broths. I actually like to make soups year round. My kids will eat it, but will complain about it when I serve soup on a 95 degree day. I try to explain that our Chinese ancestors drank hot soups (including spicy soups) year-round, especially on the super hot days because it boosts the immune system and rejuvenates the body. And, heck, soup is just pure delishishness any time of day or season!

Oh, and by the way…. making soup in my Instant Pot is so easy and so full of flavor. If you haven’t had a chance to get in on the Instant Pot craze (or maybe you’re avoiding it)… perhaps it’s time to give it a second thought. Seriously, do you have time to cook a proper bone broth (24-48 hours)? The Instant Pot pressurizes and can make that same tasty, healthy broth in under three hours. Yes, three hours. While you’re away at work. You don’t even have to be there!

As I continue my fast – now in my second week of one meal per day (except on the weekends), I love to sip on bone broth during the day. It’s got all the vitamins and nutrients I need to write, focus and attend to my kids and chores. It’s so true that the right recipe, with the right ingredients and smells can bring back fond childhood memories of bustling kitchens and sticky Chinatown restaurant floors. After combing the Internet, I discovered several bone broth recipes from which I selected my favorite parts to create a very flavorful, craveable broth. Cheers to your next bowl of joy!
